Architect: John Chislett Constructed in 1836 for attorneys Andrew and Robert Burke, this is a rare survivor of the great fire of 1845. The spare Greek Revival design is accented by a minimum of classical ornament-- a slightly projecting central bay with two pediments, double laurel wreaths and fluted columns at the entrance. John Chislett, an English architect, opened his practice in Pittsburgh in 1833. In addition to designing the Orphan Asylum of Pittsburgh and Allegheny in 1838, which still stands in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood, Chislet was responsible for the layout and Butler Street gateway for Allegheny Cemetery.
