In order to achieve our mission of providing human resources services to both our internal and external customers, we have developed the following core services and initiatives.

CORE FUNCTIONS AND INITIATIVES

Staffing City with Most Qualified Employees
    Program Initiatives: 

  • Conduct Firefighter recruitment
  • Analyze and redesign prerequisites for clerical positions
  • Enhance design and availability of interactive services on Departmental website
  • Establish eligibility lists for various entry and promotional positions

Developing, Implementing and Maintaining Personnel Policies
    Program Initiatives:

  • Develop and implement process for electronic distribution of Personnel and Civil Service documents to internal and external customers
  • Continue distribution of employment policies and laws to all employees
  • Develop procedural manual for Citywide Return-to-Work Program

Education, Training and Development
    Program Initiatives:

  • Assess departmental training needs and develop customized training programs
  • Coordinate and facilitate supervisory skills training for newly appointed management and supervisory personnel Citywide
  • Develop updated new hire orientation program

Complying with Legal Mandates
    Program Initiatives:

  • Comply with DOT mandated random drug and alcohol testing program for employees with Commercial Driver's Licenses
  • Conduct weekly Civil Service Commission meetings and public hearings

Maintaining Human Resources Records
    Program Initiatives:

  • Co-locate all employee records related to personnel, benefits and payroll
  • Train customer service staff in employee compensation processes and procedures

Providing Occupational Health and Safety Resources
    Program Initiatives:

  • Communication of City of Pittsburgh Safety Policy and applicable injury prevention strategies.
  • Perform preventive inspections of City of Pittsburgh facilities.
  • Investigate injuries to City of Pittsburgh employees and initiate efforts to curb similar injuries.
  • Provide safety-related training and recommendations to City of Pittsburgh departments that reflect current health and safety technologies and regulations.
