Swimming in  a Citiparks Pool - Make a Splash
Swimming

Make a splash by joining a water aerobics class or swim team, enjoy a community water carnival, compete in a championship meet, or learn to swim at a Citiparks swimming pool.

Swimming Fun

Outdoor pools are open during the summer season and usually close on Labor Day. The Oliver Bath House is open during the fall, winter and spring seasons for aquatic recreation. In addition, Troy Hill Spray Park is open from late spring to early fall.

Pool Tags

Pool Passes for Citiparks Pools

Individuals can purchase pool tags for year-round admission to Citiparks outdoor pools, which operate throughout the summer, and the Oliver Bath House, which operates during the off season. Beginning June 1, you can purchase a pool tag at the following locations:

City-County Building, Fourth Floor
414 Grant Street, Downtown Pittsburgh
and
Oliver Bath House

City of Pittsburgh residents
(proof of residency required)
$60 - family of four
$10 - each additional family member
$30 - adult (16 years and older)
$15 - youth (3 - 15 years old)
free - child (2 and under)

For city residents who are disabled veterans and families of active duty military and activated reservist/guard members, pool tags are available at no cost. Proper ID is required.

City of Pittsburgh residents who receive welfare benefits can buy tags at a 50% discount. A case print-out and proof of identity are required to receive the discount.

Non-City of Pittsburgh residents $45 - adult or youth

Daily Admission Fees

If you just want to swim for a day, purchase a daily admission ticket at any pool. The cost is $3 for children ages 3 - 15 and $4 for individuals 16 and older.

Pool Rules & Regulations
  1. Pool tags must be worn at all times.
  2. Swim suits are required for the pool and deck area.
  3. Patrons must shower before entering the pool.
  4. No running, dunking, horseplay or profanity.
  5. No diving on the shallow side of safety line.
  6. Smoking is prohibited inside the facility.
  7. Food and drink are permitted only in designated area.
  8. Swimmers under six years of age must be accompanied by an adult 16 years or older.
  9. The Head Lifeguard must approve all flotation devices. Inflatable flotation devices are prohibited.
  10. Lounge chairs & strollers must be kept at a minimum distance of ten feet from poolside.
  11. Patrons with medical conditions should inform the Lifeguards.
  12. Citiparks is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property.
  13. Complaints - see the Head Lifeguard for procedures.
  14. Lifeguards are responsible for your safety, so please follow the rules.

Violations of above rules may result in disciplinary action up to and including loss of pool privileges.

Programs

During the summer Citiparks offers a variety of programs and activities at outdoor pools throughout the City. Talk to the head lifeguard for more information about programs scheduled at your pool. To enroll in any aquatics program, a participant must have a Citiparks annual pool pass.

Adult Lap Swim
for individuals 16 years and older

Water Aerobics

Enjoy a water aerobics class using the resistance of water to tone and increase strength as well as cardio fitness. This program creates no stress on the joints and is great for swimmers and non-swimmers 16 years and older. The program uses a variety of aquatic programming equipment.

Senior Water Aerobics

Take aerobics at a more leisurely pace with other seniors. This great low-impact workout uses various aquatic programming equipment and allows you to work at your own pace.

Swim Teams

If you're 6 to 18 years old, join your local swim team, head off to compete against teams from other Citiparks pools throughout the summer, then compete at the Championship Swim Meet at Highland Park Pool. Ask the head lifeguard at your local pool how to become a member of a swim team.

Water Carnivals

Throughout the summer, lifeguards organize water shows and carnivals at community pools. Talk to the head lifeguard at your local pool about joining in the fun of preparing for one of these events.

Lessons

Infant/Preschool Swimming Lessons

for children 18 months - 5 years old

Join your youngster in the pool for five, fun half-hour classes. Your child will learn water entry, kicks, glides, arm movements and water play.

Please note: Parents must participate in the water.

Children's Learn-to-Swim
for children 6 - 15 years old

Enroll your child in 10 swimming classes this summer. Your youngster learns basic water skills while focusing on water safety.

Adult's Learn-to-Swim
for individuals 16 and older

Any age is the perfect age to learn to swim! Overcome your fear of the water and gain basic water skills by registering for an adults-only class.

Free Learn-to-Swim Camp
for children 6 - 15 years old

Certified lifeguards teach swimming and general safety practices in and around the water. Your child receives 10 free lessons during a two-week period. Instructors teach two separate classes each weekday: Mondays through Fridays, 10 - 10:45 a.m., and Mondays through Fridays, 11 - 11:45 a.m. Please note: Due to limited class size, applicants can enroll in only one session. Pool tags are not required for the free Learn-to-Swim camp.

Citiparks Championship Swim Meet

Early August in 2010

Citiparks Championship Swim Meet at Highland Park's long-course swimming pool remains the ultimate challenge for Citiparks swim teams!

Hundreds of youths from throughout the City of Pittsburgh represent their local pools in this day-long event.

Swimmers ranging in age from 6 to 18 years old compete in both individual and team relay events. After each event, the top eight winners are awarded medals or ribbons. At the end of the day, the points are tallied and the overall team standings are announced.
