Healthy Active Living: Committed to Active Aging

Healthy Active Living is committed to ensuring that all persons 60 and older live active and healthy lives.

To achieve this goal, Citiparks Community Services operates 15 senior community centers focused on improving the physical, intellectual, social, cultural and financial interests of older residents.
Stretching the Mind

To foster the intellectual interest of seniors, Healthy Active Living offers a variety of classes in conjunction with Community College of Allegheny County.

Class topics include Computers, English as a Second Language, Exercise, the Arts, Tai Chi, Healthy Cooking, etc.

To address the financial needs of seniors, the Information and Referral program can assist with rent rebates, PACE (pharmaceutical assistance), ACCESS and OPT (transportation arrangements), LIHEAP (energy assistance), etc.

Building the Body

Recognizing that health and wellness is key to the quality of life of our seniors, Healthy Active Living offers a variety of exciting physical activities and sports programs.

Recognizing the diverse nature of our community, Healthy Active Living has developed numerous cultural experiences recognizing the vast contributions of the African American, Asian and Latino communities.

African Drum and Dance Classes

Chinese American Program

Healthy Active Living—in collaboration with the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA)—has developed an innovative program to serve seniors from the Chinese American community.

Monthly activities take place throughout the year at the Greenfield Senior Community Center and feature topics such as health and wellness, nutrition, information and referral, socialization and recreation. The center also offers "English as a Second Language" (ESL) classes.

To better serve Chinese American seniors and facilitate communication, the Greenfield Senior Community Center includes a full-time staff member who speaks Mandarin.

The program, which is partially funded by the Area Agency on Aging, meets throughout the year. For more information on this program, call 412-422-6551.
