Ceremony at Highland Park facility designates "Bud Harris Cycling Track"
On June 30, City officials officially named the Washington Boulevard Cycling Track in memory of lifelong Pittsburgher Forrest "Bud" Harris, a cycling advocate and driving force behind the track's construction 11 years ago.
According to a City proclamation, Mr. Harris, who died in June 2009, "worked tirelessly to support the acquisition and development of a dedicated track on Washington Boulevard. Bud brought together representatives of government and racing associations, as well as contractors, and oversaw every detail of this project."
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "Bud Harris, Pittsburgh’s gift to two wheels, gets his due"
Bud Harris Cycling Track
The Bud Harris Cycling Track, a half-mile oval loop along Washington Boulevard, is a one-of-a-kind attraction, drawing elite cyclists and beginners to its banked corners and slight hill. Formerly a drivers' training course, the facility accommodates track and criterium racing and time trials. The track's flat interior surface is the perfect place for kids to learn to inline skate or ride bikes or scooters.
