(PITTSBURGH) September 29, 2008 - Mayor Luke Ravenstahl hosted a breakfast and proclamation ceremony for the religious leaders who participated in his “52 Weeks of Peace” initiative. The faith-based initiative called on religious leaders to help save lives by encouraging the community to speak-up against crime. The initiative will tie into the newly announced Pittsburgh Initiative to Reduce Crime.

During the year long save-a-life campaign which commenced in June of 2007, more than thirteen religious organizations agreed to preach messages of non-violence at the pulpit and in worship bulletins each week. More than 1,000 silent-complaint forms were distributed from the places of worship.

The save-a-life initiative began with a poignant presentation from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the County’s Medical Examiners Office which showed the ominous realities of gun violence through the eyes of families, communities and first-responders.

MAYOR UNVEILS 21ST-CENTURY TECHNOLOGY
DURING NEIGHBORHOOD SWEEP

Mayor Unveils 21st-Century Technology During Neighborhood Sweep

(PITTSBURGH) September 17, 2008 - Mayor Luke Ravenstahl unveiled new technology that will give neighborhood inspectors 21st-century tools to better respond to eye-level code violations such as graffiti, hazardous sidewalks, or overgrown lots.

During his third Taking Care of Business (TCOB) sweep in Bloomfield, the Mayor tested the software’s best feature. Calling the City’s 311 Response Line, the Mayor reported the sweep’s first enforcement violation, and within seconds, the complaint appeared on the inspector’s handheld device. From the field, the inspector was able to verify the address and property owner, and send the citation information directly to the Bureau of Building Inspection (BBI) for dissemination.
