(PITTSBURGH) March 19, 2008 – Mayor Luke Ravenstahl gathered firefighters and community members at Fire Station No. 23 in Carrick to celebrate public investment in fire equipment that has made the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire (PBF) one of the best equipped in the nation.

U.S. Congressman Doyle, standing in front of the newly purchased equipment, presented the Mayor with a ceremonial check for more than $1.6 million.

“I’m very pleased that Mayor Ravenstahl has made public safety one of his top priorities,” Congressman Doyle said. “I’ve been making the case in Washington that first responders in Pittsburgh and cities across the country deserve state-of-the-art equipment when they put their lives on the line to protect their friends and neighbors. That’s why I’ve been pushing to preserve and increase federal assistance for firefighters in southwestern Pennsylvania and across the country for years.”

MAYOR ENGAGES CITY IN FORECLOSURE AWARENESS

311 WILL PROVIDE INFO TO RESIDENTS FACING FORECLOSURE

MAYOR ENGAGES CITY IN FORECLOSURE AWARENESS MAYOR ENGAGES CITY IN FORECLOSURE AWARENESS

(March 10, 2008) - Guided by the principle of “one foreclosure is too many,” Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is encouraging homeowners who need assistance to anonymously call 311.

Starting today, the Mayor’s 311 Response Line will be able to act as a centralized referral, directing callers to service providers who are specifically trained to assist with foreclosures. The response line will guide concerned borrowers to services such as loan and credit review, state-sponsored assistance to bring loans current, assistance in negotiations with lenders, and legal representation.

“Our goal is to preserve family homeownership to ensure that Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods remain stable and prosperous,” Mayor Ravenstahl said. “Although Pittsburgh foreclosures are among the lowest in the nation, one foreclosure is too many. For residents who need support, help is just three digits away.”
