(PITTSBURGH) August 10, 2008 – Though ominous clouds took control of the City’s skyline, families throughout Pittsburgh joined the soon-to-be parents for their first-ever family night. The event, held at Flagstaff Hill, gave parents and kids a chance to learn about City initiatives such as the Pittsburgh Promise.

Representatives from the City’s economic development, recreation, personnel, and safety departments staffed information booths, handing out everything from free smoke detectors to child-safety information.

MAYOR PARTICIPATES IN LAWRENCEVILLE'S SUMMER CELEBRATION

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl participates in Lawrenceville's Summer Celebration

(PITTSBURGH) August 5, 2008 – Mayor Luke Ravenstahl celebrated summer recreation with youths from the City’s Lawrenceville neighborhood who are taking part in the Weed and Seed funded “Lawrenceville Summer Celebration.”

As part of their ongoing strategy to decrease crime and provide youths with positive summer recreation, a local community organization, Lawrenceville United, has partnered with the City of Pittsburgh and more than 15 local organizations creating a summer-long festival to foster community pride.
