MAYOR DECLARES TREE GIVE-AWAY A SUCCESS

(PITTSBURGH) April 28, 2008 - Despite rain and chilly temperatures, more than 100 residents attended the Mayor’s “Great Tree Give-away” event today, held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the City’s Point Breeze recycling center, Construction Junction.
The Mayor gave away all 1,000 Frazier fir seedlings, donated by Giant Eagle, Inc. and Kraft Foods, and brought back 100 seedlings to give to City employees. Many residents handed the Mayor bags of recyclables, and even unused computers in exchange for the seedlings.

TEN CITY WASTE HAULERS GO GREEN
Dynamic partnership showcases advanced emission reduction technology |

(PITTSBURGH) April 25, 2008 - Mayor Luke Ravenstahl wrapped up Earth Week today announcing that ten City waste haulers will go green with the pilot-installation of diesel particulate filters, thanks to a partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and local clean air and water leaders.
The advanced emission reduction technology, funded by a $127,000 EPA grant and managed in part by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Air Management Association (MARAMA), will reduce toxic particulate matter in each waste hauler by more than 85 percent.

MAYOR UNVEILS FIVE-MEMBER ‘GREEN TEAM’ TO BEAUTIFY VACANT LOTS |

(PITTSBURGH) April 24, 2008 -Mayor Ravenstahl announced today at a newly greened gateway in Brighton Heights the formation of a five-member “Green Team” to transform demolished and vacant lots into green community assets.
“Our City’s vacant lots present opportunities for neighborhood revitalization through greening strategies,” Mayor Ravenstahl said.
The Green Team will expand the work of the Mayor’s Green Up Pittsburgh pilot-project, which successfully transformed more than 40 City-owned vacant lots into assets such as urban farms and community gardens.

(PITTSBURGH) April 21, 2008 - Mayor Luke Ravenstahl led a pack of bikers onto the Junction Hollow and Eliza Furnace trails today, after unveiling the final trail-finder sign, and called on Pittsburghers to take advantage of the City’s 22 miles of riverfront trails.
