Mayor Kicks Off Summer Youth Employment Program
(PITTSBURGH) July 27, 2009
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl kicked-off his Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program (PSYEP), welcoming youths to the City/County Building Portico, and touring several PSYEP sites. Since bringing the program back in 2006, the Mayor has improved upon it with the help of President Obama's economic stimulus funding, doubling the amount of youths hired to 554, and adding "white-collar" internships.
The tour kicked off at the City-County Building Portico, where the Mayor met with youths who are participating in the Student Conservation Association's Pittsburgh Parks Program. The Mayor then visited with youths who rolled up their sleeves at a land beautification project in Garfield, donning a suit and tie at Hillman Cancer Center, and learning the paramedic profession at the Emergency Medical Services Building.
