In October 2009, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced the hire of Lindsay Baxter, the City's first Sustainability Coordinator. Ms. Baxter was formerly a Municipal Fellow with the organization Clean Air-Cool Planet, a New England-based environmental non-profit.
In this role, she was the primary author of the Pittsburgh Climate Action Plan , a document outlining recommendations for City government, residents, businesses, and universities to decrease their greenhouse gas emissions. As Sustainability Coordinator, she will be tasked with implementing the recommendations aimed at municipal government.
While a major portion of her job will be focused on increasing energy efficiency, she will also collaborate with existing environmental programs in the City, such as recycling, tree planting, and Green Up.
