The Ride
The Great Ride is the original recreational bicycling tour of Pittsburgh, taking cyclists through three regional parks, across four city bridges, and through twelve city neighborhoods, each with its own distinctive personality.  Cyclists of all ages and abilities gather at the Pittsburgh Technology Center, off Second Avenue, to witness the revival of the riverfronts and benefit the Pittsburgh International Youth Hostel.

Cyclists choose between a predominately flat 20-mile course, a hillier 30-mile course, and a challenging 50-mile course that ascends several steep city streets.   More experienced riders can also be challenged by a 5-mile loop of Mount Washington, with a spectacular view of downtown Pittsburgh.  All courses are well signed and course maps will be available the day before and the day of the ride.

Refreshments
Riders are treated every 10-12 miles to festive and nourishing comfort stations offering a variety of refreshments and entertainment.  The finish line congratulates riders with music, food, and raffle prizes.

Pittsburgh Helmet Coalition
Stop by the Pittsburgh Helmet Coalition tent at the Great ride Start/Finish to learn about the importance of bicycle safety.  They will be checking children's helmets to be sure that they are fitted correctly.  (Remember children AND adults are required to wear a helmet during the Great Ride.)  They will also be offering prizes to those who are up on their bicycle safety knowledge.  Let's work together to make this a safe summer season!
