Pittsburgh EMS is charged with providing on site emergency medical care to these citizens and visitors.
On any given day Pittsburgh Paramedics are working at up to a dozen special events in a dozen different venues to staff First Aid Rooms, EMS Tents, Special Event Ambulances, Mass Casualty Trucks, Motorcycles, Bicycles, Utility Vehicles and Foot Posts throughout the City. These personnel are equipped to provide the same quality ALS care that is given on every call everywhere in the City.

The
City of Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services also has the privilege
of providing medical coverage when the President and
Vice-President of the United States of America come

Motorcycle Rersponse Unit (MRU)
In
1999 Pittsburgh EMS placed Harley-Davidson motorcycles into service.
These motorcycles are equipped with a set of Advanced Life Support
equipment. Paramedics use the motorcycles for large sporting events,
the Great Race and other large, outdoor City of Pittsburgh functions.
The motorcycle medics can maneuver safely and quickly through traffic and large
crowds thus allowing for faster ALS care to arrive sooner at the patient's side.
Bicycle
Medic Unit
Several years
ago Pittsburgh EMS also started utilizing bicycles to provide medical
coverage for large spectator events. These bicycles, staffed with
paramedics, are able to offer medical care to the citizens and visitors
of Pittsburgh faster than the traditional method when dealing with
large crowds.
