PITTSBURGH
-- Pittsburgh City Councilman William Peduto received the Patriot
Award in a surprise ceremony during a Pittsburgh City Council
meeting on July 28, 2004.
1st Lt. Christopher Coleman, mobilized on Feb. 16 and currently
deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, awarded the Patriot
Award certificate and lapel pin to Peduto in recognition of
the assistance the councilman has provided the deployed soldier
and his family during mobilization. Coleman surprised the councilman
by presenting the award during his two-week leave from
overseas duty.
"I thought it was my responsibility to highlight the fact
that the councilman has encouraged me to have a military career,
and has always supported the Guard and Reserve. His support during
this deployment reduced the strain on my family," Coleman
said.
"This is a great honor. It is our duty to support soldiers
when they're called to duty. I'm proud of Chris and all
he's done," Peduto said.
