Observatory
Hill was originally part of Allegheny City, which
was incorporated in 1840. However, the records of Old Allegheny
reveal a history of settlement which dates to the 18th century.
Observatory Hill is located north
of Downtown, and is surrounded by Summer
Hill and Northview Heights.
Since their annexation to the City of Pittsburgh in 1907, the Observatory Hill and Summer Hill districts have expanded and developed. These communities continue to grow and evolve through the efforts of neighbors and local community-based organizations.
Observatory
Hill and Summer
Hill
have much to offer their residents and the city
of Pittsburgh at large. Spacious, but affordable housing on wooded lots
provide a sense of country living in these unique city neighborhoods.
They are in close proximity to Riverview
Park
complete with a swimming pool, horseback riding, hiking trails,
and a bike path. Convenient shops and easy access to Downtown make
Observatory Hill and Summer Hill
accessible
and pleasant city neighborhoods.
The residents are proud of the variety
within their neighborhood. They boast a diverse mix of long-time
and new homeowners, skilled and professional workers, numerous
ethnic and racial backgrounds. Together, they have worked
to preserve and rejuvenate the historic quality of the area.
