Historic Review Commission

The Historic Review Commission (HRC) protects and maintains historically and architecturally significant buildings and neighborhoods in the City. The HRC is comprised of seven members appointed by the Mayor which must include an architect, a preservationist, a realtor, a building inspector, and a planner. The Commission recommends to City Council buildings which should be nominated for historic designation and administers the designation and subsequent review process.

When a building is designated as an historic landmark, the Historic Review Commission has jurisdiction over all proposed new construction, demolition, and exterior work to the building. The review process begins only when an owner decides to do work to the exterior of their building. The 27th Annual Historic Preservation Awards Ceremony

Each year, in celebration of Historical Preservation Month, the Historic Review Commission honors building owners, architects and contractors involved in outstanding exterior (or interior) restoration projects or new construction that compliment the historic character of a neighborhood.

Please take this opportunity to nominate a worthy historic preservation project for this award. Nominations must be received by April 16th, 2010.
