The ADA Compliance
Officer’s Office is located in the Department of City Planning,
200 Ross Street, 4th Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. In accordance
with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the ADA Compliance
Officer is responsible for ensuring that all programs, services,
and activities provided by the City of Pittsburgh are accessible
to people with disabilities. The ADA Compliance Officer also assists
architects, developers, business owners, landlords and others in
designing or redesigning their facilities so that they are usable
by all persons, including those with disabilities.

Strategic Planning Team
The
ADA Strategic Planning Team is a group of employees from all city
departments and authorities dedicated to better serving people
with disabilities in the City of Pittsburgh. The team meets quarterly
to identify problems and barriers to accessing city services,
programs, activities, and buildings and works collaboratively

Task Force on Disabilities
The City-County
Task Force is a 13-member panel of advocates, service providers,
and consumers appointed by the Mayor and County Executive who
advise the City and County on issues that affect people with disabilities
in the region. Six of the members are appointed by the Mayor;
six are appointed by the County Executive, and one member is elected
and appointed by the members of the Task Force. Please click on

Since
the passage of the Rehabilitation Act in 1973 and the Americans
with Disabilities Act in 1990, the City of Pittsburgh has altered
many of its facilities so that they are usable by people with
disabilities. If you are looking for a Senior Center, Recreation

House Bill 1859 (Proposed) - House Bill 1859, if it becomes
law, will establish and fund a cabinet position of an Office of
Disabilities in Pennsylvania State government.
- City
of Pittsburgh Visitability Ordinance
- In October 2002, Pittsburgh City Council introduced Ordinance
939, which would require that all single family homes, duplexes
and triplexes developed with public funds in the City of Pittsburgh
be visitable.
Visitability includes having one no step entrance
to the house, 32” wide doorways, and a first floor accessible
powder room. This would allow people with physical impairments
to participate in family events and community gatherings at
the house. This would also allow that a person with a temporary
or permanent mobility impairment to remain living in his or
her home.

Unpaid
Internships - The City of Pittsburgh will be providing
unpaid internships for those wishing to enhance their employment
skills and gain valuable employment experience. The internships
will be provided in several departments in the city government.
