The
Controller's Office Accounting Department, in cooperation with other
City Departments and the outside auditors, prepares the Comprehensive
Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The City’s financial statements
present two types of statements, each with a different snapshot
of the City’s finances. The focus is now on both the City
as a whole (government-wide) and the fund financial statements.
The government-wide financial statements, provide both short-term
and long-term information about the City’s overall financial
status. The fund financials focus on the individual parts of City
government, reporting the City’s operations in more detail
than the government-wide statements, which present a longer-term
view.
The report
is audited by our outside auditors. In addition, the report is reviewed
by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), which has
provided a "Certificate of Excellence for Financial Reporting"
to the City for over the past ten years.
