When You Need A Junk Dealer's License:

Anyone who carries on the business of buying or selling and dealing in junk, rope, scrap, iron, copper, brass, or other materials commonly referred to as junk must obtain a license from the license offer.

How To Obtain a Junk Dealer's License:

In Person:  Go to the City Licensing and Permits Office, 200 Ross Street.  Click here to view a map.

By Mail:  Download the License Application.  You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader© to view or print the form. 

Once downloaded, print the application, fill it out completely, and mail it and all other relevant materials listed under "What To Bring With You" and "Fee" below to:

 Make all checks and money orders payable to Treasurer, City of Pittsburgh.

What To Bring With You:

When applying for a Junk Dealer's License in person, you must bring the following materials with you, or your application cannot be processed.

  • The name of the licensee (your name), proof of identification, and any other name under which your business is to be conducted.
  • The address of the business you are licensing.
  • Hours of operation.
  • City Tax ID Number.
