The BAT program is a joint effort between Pittsburgh citizens and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police to minimize the potential of auto theft in our city. When you join the BAT program, you will be given a sticker (pictured on the left, not actual size) to place on the rear window on the driverside of your car. Displaying this sticker authorizes the Pittsburgh Police to pull your car over between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m., you will supply this information to the police when you register in the program. Then, if the Pittsburgh Police see someone driving your car during those hours, they will pull the car over to investigate. Choose the Participating link to find out more about the program and to register for it. There is no cost.

Motor vehicle theft is a complex problem, with no single easy solution.  124 cars are stolen every day in Pennsylvania- that's one every 12 minutes.  Allegheny County had 4,661 vehicles stolen.  All this adds up to a cost of $233 million per year for Pennsylvanians.  Thus, in addition to giving you the opportunity to sign up for the BAT program, this web site is designed to give you as much information as possible in the following areas:
