When You Need A Welder's License

Anyone who welds or uses welding torches on or for a structure (except those who shop weld exclusively) must obtain a license from the License Officer.  The license will specify the type of welding for which issued.

How To Obtain A Welder's License

What To Bring With You:

When applying for a Welder's License in person, you must bring the following materials with you, or your application cannot be processed.

• The name of the licensee (your name), proof of identification, and any other name under which your business is to be conducted.
• The address of the business you are licensing.
• Proof that you are at least 18 years old and can read and speak English.
• Evidence of having passed tests in accordance with the standards prescribed by the American Welding Society Standard Code.  The tests must have been passed within two years of the application for a City Welder's License.
• Evidence that you have been employed as a welder within 90 days of the commencement of your intended work or during the 90 days subsequent to your qualification test.
